The subsequent Montenegrin proclamation of independence on June 3, 2006 and the Serbian proclamation of independence on June 5 ended the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro and thus the last remaining vestiges of the former Yugoslavia.

Servië en Montenegro. Op 3 juni 2006 hield de unie om 20.00 uur op met bestaan. Servië is internationaalrechtelijk de opvolgingsstaat, dat wil zeggen dat alle met de confederatie gesloten verdragen naar Servië overgaan. Servië neemt daarmee onder meer de ambassades en de zetel bij de Verenigde Naties over.

Kosovo (Albanian: Kosova or Kosovë, Serbian: Косово, Kosovo, see: Names of Kosovo), is a region in the Balkans, presently under the ad interim control of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo and protection of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's Kosovo Force. Its Provisional Institutions of Self-Government have recently declared independence from the Republic of Serbia, which contested the act; as the Republic of Kosovo, it has received partial recognition.

 

Kosovo (Albanees: Kosova, Servisch: Косово и Метохија) is een politieke entiteit op het Balkanschiereiland, die bestuurd wordt door de VN-missie UNMIK. Officieel is Kosovo een autonome provincie van Servië, ook al heeft dat land in de praktijk vrijwel geen gezag in Kosovo. Kosovo zelf beschouwt zich echter na de onafhankelijkheidsverklaring van 17 februari 2008 als een onafhankelijk land. Deze onafhankelijkheid is echter (nog) niet volledig door de internationale gemeenschap erkend.
